The municipality control system shows significant risks and needs reform

Bratislava, October 2, 2020 - More than two thirds of all cities and municipalities in Slovakia do not have sufficiently secured control of their operation. This is resulting from the analysis by the Supreme Audit Office of the Slovak Republic about the system in internal control performed by the chief controllers.

As many as 77 of them work for a quarter of all municipalities in the country. It results in not having enough time for quality work. The national authority for external control therefore recommends a comprehensive reform of self-government, which will ensure the effectiveness of internal control in cities and municipalities.
