Auditors warned constitutional officials about non-functioning state information systems

Bratislava, 7 May 2021 - Non-functioning state information systems are an obstacle to efficient environmental protection, effective waste sorting, crisis management and management of compulsory vaccination. Auditors have referred findings about the EUR 8.5 million ISKRA system to the police. Other shortcomings found in the management of property at ministries or local governments as well as other fundamental findings of the Slovak auditors in the area of oil reserves and mineral resources extraction were the content of the summary information sent by the president of the Supreme Audit Office of the Slovak Republic (SAO) Karol Mitrík to the three highest constitutional officials. Despite the pandemic situation, the Office completed 14 audit actions in 57 entities in the first quarter of this year. In the information, it stressed the importance of clear budgeting as well as compliance with deadlines by the financial administration. In their reports, the auditors also pointed to the lack of support for the least developed regions or the low capacity of kindergartens. For their part, they provided guidance to local governments on how to sell or lease assets responsibly and transparently.

"The best auditor is the citizen himself, so the state budget, the final account or the annual report on the state management should be more comprehensible and transparent for ordinary people," says the President of the Supreme Audit Office of the Slovak Republic, K. Mitrík.
