Bratislava, September 19, 2022 – Slovak municipalities are under public supervision before the municipal elections. In order to enable citizens to find out how their municipality or city manages public funds, the Supreme Audit Office of the SR (SAO) created a special interactive digital control tool. Thanks to the MuMAP (Municipalities on Map) application, every citizen can compare and check what is happening in their immediate surroundings for the second year. The application accessible free of charge published on the official website of the national authority for external audit (www.nku.gov.sk) also inform interested parties to how a specific local government draws European Union (EU) funds and, for example, to what shortcomings exist in the municipality the auditors revealed.

A new feature is the creation of a map with an overview of the recipients of finances provided from First Aid projects during the COVID-19 pandemic. The application was programmed by the working group of the audit office on its own, thanks to which it saved a not insignificant amount of public funds, which can be used through the state budget. At the same time, with this step, the SAO brings audit closer to the public, and every citizen can thus become a good auditor of the municipality or city in which they live at any time. People can actively contribute to the fact that elected representatives undergo an open process of accounting for public promises or policies.
