Workshop: Open Data

Bratislava, 20 November 2025 – A workshop organised by the Supreme Audit Office of the Slovak Republic (SAO SR) showed that open data are becoming an essential element of modern and transparent public administration. However, their development in Slovakia continues to be hindered by a lack of capacity, unclear legislation and insufficient coordination between central government and local authorities.

The event, held on Thursday 20 November 2025 in a hybrid format and attended by a wide range of experts from national and local government, focused on the state of open data publication, the most common challenges and the steps needed for improvement. The discussion highlighted, in particular, the need to adopt a Data Act and to expand analytical studies on the impact of open data. Participants also pointed to the abolition of the publication minimum in the state administration.

Local governments drew attention to the shortage of personnel and financial resources and to the low level of awareness of open data, while at the same time stressing that open data are a strategic priority for modern towns and municipalities.

The workshop confirmed that open data are a key tool for ensuring transparency and efficiency in public administration. Further progress will require strengthened cooperation and better sharing of experience.
